RED ROCKS – LIGHTROOM & PHOTOSHOP PRESET COLLECTION

This preset collection was inspired by landscape of the Sedona desert, with the myriad but balanced variety of warm and cool tones found in the sky, earth and foliage. This preset was developed over a course of 3 weeks where we immersed ourselves in all aspects of the outdoors, the people and the lifestyle. It has a subtle filmic quality and a softness that tones down the strength of primary colors but still leaves enough vibrance and contrast in the image. This balance of softness and vibrance also symbolizes the balance of the environment from which this preset was inspired. Overall color is fairly accurate but definitely muted over all hues. Additionally, the highlights on the green/yellow hues are toned down significantly. The rendition of the earth tones, particularly the reds and oranges, are enhanced to emulate the dynamic range of what you will see in the red rocks on the ground beneath you and in the mountains in the distance while in Sedona. For the warm set of presets, there is a noticeable warm sunset feel and the blue and cyan tones are subtly present and desaturated. The warm set tends to push a more vintage, filmic look and sometimes even reminiscent of old westerns. The cool set on the other hand, enhances the blue tones, sometimes pushing it into more of the cyan channel. Cyan becomes more vibrant making turquoise colors stand out more.

This collection includes 7 total presets: Red Rocks Neutral, Red Rocks Cool 1, Red Rocks Cool 2, Red Rocks Cool 3, Red Rocks Warm 1, Red Rocks Warm 2, Red Rocks Warm 3. In Adobe Photoshop/Adobe Camera Raw, you can adjust the intensity of this preset by duplicating and applying the preset on your original image at various opacity levels if you do not want to apply this at full strength.

NEUTRAL PRESET

The neutral preset is the best starting point to explore and understand how you want to implement these presets in your Red Rocks collection. It has muted tones and the effects are subtle but definitely indicative of the style and feel of this collection. If you are someone who likes to customize the presets in the collections to your own liking, you will want to use this as a starting point. Some of our favorite photos are edited using the Neutral Preset without any changes whatsoever.

COOL TONES

An example below of a preset from the Cool Set, you will notice the biggest change here in the color of the sky. Also, the earth tones are more vibrant, with some removal of magenta. This set is not simply just an adjustment of white balance; with the cool set, you have 3 unique presets in the same family that adjust the different tonalities of the jewel tones and enhance the overall cool color temperatures. Below, you will find different examples of the cool tone preset renditions from subtle to dynamic/punchy.

WARM TONES

Similar to the Red Rocks Cool Set, you have 3 unique presets in the warm tonality range. These emulate a very rustic almost western feel but keeps its distance from the vintage aspect. It will emulate more of a distinctive sunset look. Depending on the time of day and the position of the sun, the rocks and earth may look more red or orange which makes this set of presets very exciting to use in different landscapes and at different times of the day.
